Safeways Wellness Centre
Safeways Wellness Centre · Nairobi
Where hope becomes a plan.
Safeways offers outpatient mental health and addiction consulting with structured, routine check-ins to track every client’s progress — the first step toward a residential home where recovery can be finished, not just started.
Why Safeways
Outpatient care that already exists. A residential home that doesn’t — yet.
Susan Mwende Mutegi has spent over two decades as a psychiatric nurse and addiction specialist, treating people from Nairobi’s informal settlements who have nowhere affordable to turn. Safeways Wellness Centre is her outpatient practice, working today with clients who need ongoing, structured support: regular consultations, honest progress tracking, and a plan that adapts as they do.
What we don’t have yet is a place for the clients whose recovery needs more than a weekly appointment can give — a residential facility for medically supervised detox and structured, live-in care. That’s the centre we’re raising funds to build.

Outpatient consulting, built around the check-in
Recovery isn’t a single appointment. It’s a relationship we track over time — so every client knows exactly how far they’ve come, and what happens next.
Consulting
One-to-one addiction & mental health consulting
Assessment, counselling, and treatment planning delivered by a licensed psychiatric nurse and addiction specialist — in a setting that treats every client with dignity, regardless of income.
Routine check-ins

Help us build the next step
Turning an outpatient practice into a residential home
The clinical model is proven. The community relationships already exist. What’s missing is the physical facility. We’re raising a one-time establishment grant — not ongoing funding — to build it.
“I am not asking for this grant for myself. I am asking on behalf of the people of Huruma, Korogocho, Kariobangi, and Mathare, who deserve the same chance at recovery that wealthier Kenyans take for granted.” Susan Mwende Mutegi — Kenya Registered Psychiatric Nurse & Addiction Specialist
