Drug & Substance Addiction
Conditions · Drug & Substance Addiction
Cannabis, heroin, and inhalants — treated with medical seriousness.
Substance use in Nairobi’s informal settlements starts younger and runs deeper than most people realise. We meet it with clinical care, not judgment.
Common patterns locally
Heroin dependence
Often requiring medically supervised withdrawal and structured post-detox support.
Inhalant use (glue sniffing)
Increasingly common among children and adolescents in informal settlements.
Cannabis use
Ranging from occasional to heavy daily use affecting work, school, or family life.
Poly-substance use
Combined use of multiple substances, which raises both health risk and treatment complexity.

Our approach
Every client is screened using standardised tools (DAST-10) to understand which substances are involved and how severe use has become. From there, care is matched to need: outpatient counselling and routine check-ins for early-stage use, and — once our residential programme is operational — medically supervised detox and a structured 90-day recovery pathway for more severe dependence.
